While pursuing a degree in Visual Arts at Southeastern Louisiana University, she decided to take her self-taught skills to the next level and enrolled in Ajour Academy where she received her state certification. Becoming a licensed makeup artist led Melanie to starting her own business in providing onsite makeup services.
